Country Description:

CARE Uganda was established in 1969. The first projects focused on agricultural development, animal husbandry, health education and community development. During the reign of Idi Amin (1973-1979), CARE was forced to suspend operations. After he was overthrown, CAREĀ resumed relief and rehabilitation activities. Since then, CAREĀ  has emphasized long-term development in projects dealing with agriculture, primary health care, population and small enterprise development. In 1994, CARE assisted up to 10,000 Rwandan refugees in Orunchinga, a town located in the southwestern part of the country.
