Fighting Global Poverty
CARE is one of the world's leading humanitarian organizations fighting global poverty. In 72 developing countries, we help poor communities create lasting solutions to their most threatening problems. CARE's poverty-fighting projects reach tens of millions of people each year through emergency relief, community support and longer-term projects in education, health care and small-business development.

Investing in Communities
Starbucks and CARE first worked together in 1992 on a community health project in Indonesia — the first of many innovative, collaborative efforts in the fight against poverty. These programs have included everything from helping over 10,000 Ethiopians improve agricultural practices, to assisting more than 400,000 Guatemalans over eight years with health care, civil society development, and water and sanitation.

Helping Individuals
Through the years, CARE and Starbucks have worked together in nine countries and four continents. Each of these projects did more than just alleviate the symptoms of poverty — they helped communities create sustainable solutions. Together, Starbucks and CARE have helped nearly 3 million people improve their lives — an accomplishment we can all be proud of.

Moving forward, Starbucks and CARE are exploring ways to better serve coffee-origin communities — with new programs like the CARE-Starbucks Emergency Response Fund to improve response to natural disasters in countries where Starbucks sources coffee and tea.

Seeing Results
Starbucks recently sent Executive Vice-president Deidra Wager and Manager of Corporate Giving Jackie Liao to explore collaborative opportunities between Starbucks and CARE. The team visited several projects in Guatemala, including everthing from food distribution to empowerment training for women.
