Country Description:
CARE opened its mission in Nepal in 1978 with the goal of strengthening the capacity of rural poor to fulfill their basic needs. Community organization is the foundation for CARE's interventions, so that communities themselves take responsibility for prioritizing, planning, implementing and monitoring development activities. CARE Nepal has worked with more than 1,450 community groups, including women's groups and "Community Development Committees" that coordinate development efforts in each community. Today, CARE Nepal's portfolio of integrated projects provide a range of services in community organization, agriculture and natural resources, rural infrastructure, non-formal education, income generation, primary health care and family planning services.
