National Solidarity Program (NSP)- CARE is a Facilitating Partner for the National Solidarity Program (NSP) in Ghazni and Paktia and recently expanded to Wardak,Parwan, Baghlan and Balk provinces. Through NSP, CARE has supported the establishment and training of 696 Community Development Councils (CDCs). With technical support from CARE staff and financial support in the form of block grants, the CDCs carry out projects that meet prioritized community needs. To date, 3,821 CDC members have been trained; 446 community sub-projects and 1,615 infrastructure projects have been completed.
The Employment Generation Scheme (EGS) II- EGS helps poor rural communities through cash-for-work, capacity building and infrastructure projects that promote the health and well being of vulnerable residents. In the first three months of the follow-on, 38 communities were selected for vocational training and infrastructure activities, five workshops held for over 100 representatives of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, and 51 women and 50 men received vocational training for income generation. Under EGS II, communities have started 28 water and four infrastructure projects. |
