Project Information

Project Name:CORE Initiative in Angola
Project Description:
CARE has led the implementation of the Communities Responding to HIV/AIDS Epidemic (CORE) initiative
whose mission is to support an inspire, effective and inclusive response to the causes and consequences of
HIV/AIDS by strengthening the capacity of community and faith-based groups worldwide. As part of a regional
CORE sub-grants mechanism targeting Angola and three other countries in southern Africa, CORE has granted 11
small awards in Angola to support local NGO initiatives to raise HIV/AIDS awareness and fight
stigma. Targeted organizations are legally registered NGOs, community-based or faith-based groups. The type of
interventions funded under this mechanism aim at reducing HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination, which
remain the main obstacles to the success of ongoing prevention, care and support interventions.
