| Project Name: | EDUCA-ECUADOR (Quality Education for Ecuador) |
| Project Description: |
The Educa-Ecuador project is an innovative initiative to strengthen and expand civil society's advocacy efforts to improve basic education in the country, through establishing close links with successful models of rural Hispanic, Bilingual and Intercultural Education (BIE) that promote not only quality education but which also promote equity and inclusion. As part of this effort, successful educational models are validated and the generated knowledge is shared with other organizations. Using these evidence-based advocacy methods, the project expects to positively influence the educational policies, strategies and resource allocation, not only of the Government of Ecuador, but also of the International Financial Institutions, so as to ensure equitable and universal access to 10 years of quality basic education. The latter has been adopted as Ecuador's target within the framework of the Millennium Development Goals, to which Ecuador is signatory.
To achieve the project's objectives, CARE works closely with the 'Social Contract for Education' (a civil society alliance), the Ministry of Education and Culture, the National Directorate for Bilingual and Intercultural Education and Consortium of Provincial Councils of Ecuador (CONCOPE). The initiative draws on prior and ongoing work by CARE, Plan International and the SOY! Consortium throughout the country. |
