Project Name:United in the fight against HIV AIDS in Ecuador (UNIVIDA)
Project Description:
The objective of the 'United in the fight against HIV/AIDS' (UNIVIDA) project is to significantly slow the spread of HIV and AIDS in Ecuador's most affected provinces by July 2010.
The project will implement a coherent set of activities associated with the following outcome level expected results: 1) The target population (youth, men, women, with emphasis on certain at-risk groups) has modified their sexual behavior and has reduced the stigma and discrimination towards PLWHA, as a result of participation in information, education and communication activities; 2) Access, quality and use of basic HIV and AIDS related services (voluntary counseling and testing, prevention of vertical transmission, basic care and reference) have been substantially increased and improved in at least 25 participating health service provider centers in nine provinces; 3) Access to social services and economic security has been improved for at least 600 PLWHA and 150 HIV and AIDS orphans; 4) HIV and AIDS related policies and policy implementation processes in Ecuador have been strengthened at both the national and local levels because of coalition efforts; 5) The experiences and learning generated by the action has been documented, systematized, disseminated and replicated among knowledge communities of the beneficiary population, members of the coalition, and participating service providers.
