Project Name:Managing Tropical Rainforests in the Ecuadorian Amazon Region
Project Description:
The project is intended to contribute to Millennium Development Goal #9. In general, the project will: 1) Integrate the principles of sustainable development into local policies and programs in the southern central region of the Ecuadorian Amazon region. 2) Contribute to reversing the loss of environmental resources. 3) Help to preserve the natural and cultural environment of indigenous groups in the southern-central part of the Ecuadorian Amazon region. Its specific objective is to conserve tropical rainforests in the southern-central part of the Ecuadorian Amazon region as well as the heritage of native populations.

This will be achieved by legalizing territories of indigenous groups, recovering traditional practices of biodiversity management, along with administering an information system and establishing methods to adapt to and mitigate climate change, and will include the participation of local institutions with the capacity to influence the design and establishment of policies for sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation in the southern-central region of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
