By the end of June 2010, CARE Ecuador's 'Building capacities in girls linked to the worst forms of child labor: education, empowerment and public policies- GIRLS LEADING THEIR FUTURE' project seeks to fight against the discrimination and exclusion faced by 1,000 indigenous, Afro-Ecuadorian and Hispanic boys and especially girls tied to the worst forms of child labor that permanently affect their opportunities to enroll in, stay in and finish complete cycle of quality education that is relevant to their social-cultural contexts. This will be achieved by consolidating the education processes that have begun at the local level, building capacity for empowerment and leadership among girls, systematizing lessos learned and information regarding the education of working girls, and encouraging the creation of local and national public policies on the education of girls and the eradication of the worst forms of child labor, based on the evidence. The project is implemented in the cantons of Cayambe and Pedro Moncayo, province of Pichincha. The advocacy component is implemented at the national level.
