Project Information

Project Name:Making Markets work for the Poor in Racha-Lechkhumi
Project Description:
During the inception period in Racha-Lechkumi, CARE proposes to identify market opportunities that can be developed into pro-poor projects, to measure the baseline socio-economic conditions in the target municipalities, and to introduce municipal planning with a DRR lens.

The information developed will serve to plan detailed activities that will deliver the outcomes suggested by SDC:
• Farmers and rural entrepreneurs will have acquired knowledge and capacities to make more informed and efficient use of resources and market channels;
• Principles of disaster risk reduction (DRR) with emphasis on prevention and reduction of vulnerability will be applied at local levels;
• The interaction between target groups and local self-government will be enhanced through institutional capacity building and participatory decision making.

To accomplish these goals, CARE will adapt models successfully developed in Samskhe-Javakheti and elsewhere in each of three fields, working through and strengthening local partners and service providers to obtain sustainable results.
