| Project Name: | Community-Driven Initiatives for Food Security |
| Project Description: |
| Community-Driven Initiatives for Food Security (CIFS) is anticipated to be a 5 year project, addressing three aspects of Food Security; availability of food; access to food; and utilization of food. A Canadian Co-ordinating Agency (CCA) will work with local NGOs, private sector partners and selected community in the Eastern Corridor of the Northern Region, to identify and develop Community-driven Initiatives to increase food security. These Community-driven Initiatives, based upon decisions taken by community members during a community animation process, would then be harmonized into District Development Plans using existing planning processes. Dedicated funds would be made available to ensure that Community-driven Initiatives identified and developed as part of the project can be realized. These dedicated funds would be made available in such a way to ensure that districts and communities are jointly responsible for, and participate in, the implementation and management of the community-driven Initiatives. The goal of CIFS is to contribute to increased food security in northern Ghana through an approach that is environmentally, economically and socially sustainable. The purpose is to demonstrate that Community-driven Initiatives, implemented within the existing framework for district planning, are an effective and sustainable way of increasing food security in northern Ghana. |
