| Project Name: | Community Land Use Responses to Climate Change in Northern Ghana |
| Project Description: | |
| The Community Land Use Responses to Climate Change project is a four year project being implemented in Northern Ghana. The main goal of the project is to "Reduce negative impact of desertification and climate change vulnerabilities on poor rural communities in Northern Ghana. The project will be implemented between 2007 and 2011, in 20 communities in the Northern and upper East regions. The project aims at enhancing community land use management for greater resilience to desertification and climate change vulnerabilities in 20 communities in the Northern and Upper East regions of Ghana. The project will enable communities, women and marginalized groups to engage in livelihood activities which build and manage the natural resource base over the long term thereby strengthening community and individual resilience to the negative effects of climate change. Key project activities that are being implemented at the community levels include the Cammunity Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (CVCA), and other participatory planning and analysis in each community. This process and outcomes will be used to develop and implement specific adaptation pilot activities that enhance the communities' resilience and capacity to adapt to climate variability and extremes. The pilot adaptations will diversify livelihood options and other mitigation activities. | |
