Project Information

Project Name:ALCOMBATSIDA (Central America)
Project Description:
The Alliances to Fight Aids Project (ALCOMBATSIDA) introduces an innovative element to the region by involving private enterprise in actions to respond to HIV/AIDS via designing and implementing HIV/AIDS policy in the workplace.

The project has two phases: the first will last 4 months, in which there will be a quantitative and qualitative evaluation in order to systematically document the experience of ALCOMBATSIDA during its first year. Also a feasibility study on scaling up the project regionally will become a key input in developing a strategy for mobilizing resources for the project in Central America, involving the participation of private enterprise, government, international agencies and civil society.

The second phase will cover a period of 12 months and will consist of replicating and expanding the ALCOMBATSIDA Project, building on lessons learned and best practices in the pilot phase. It will be possible to enter into this phase only if a political and financial commitment from the business is achieved, thus offering sustainability to the project's activities. Both phases will have a strong component geared toward understanding the experience and spreading what has been learned inside and outside of CARE.

The overall objective of the project is 'to strengthen the regional response to HIV/AIDS via private sector commitment in Central America to initiatives which promote prevention, attention to HIV/AIDS and the struggle against discrimination toward people with HIV and AIDS in the workplace.'
