CARE's ATSINANANA Program in Tamatave Province involves a wide range of activities in food security, roads and markets access, health and nutrition at village and commune levels. CARE provides technical assistance and training to promote sustainable farming practices, more productive and diversified farming systems and improved post-harvest management. Using food-for-work, the project rehabilitates small-scale irrigation and drainage systems and soil and water conservation infrastructure to enhance agricultural potential. CARE complements these activities by promoting basic communication and marketing infrastructures that enable poor households to carry out marketing activities more efficiently. The program also targets sustainable improvements in environmental health by decreasing
the incidence of water and sanitation-related disease in the project area. Finally, CARE improves community
management of water and sanitation resources and builds up key water and sanitation infrastructures. |
