Project Information

Project Name:Tragnambo
Project Description:
Funded by the European Union, Tranambo's goal is to improve the livelihood security of approximately 7,000 households living in the seven communes of Anosy District in the Fort Dauphin area. This is a zone of great economic potential, yet it has been isolated for years due to lack of investment. CARE, the communities and two local NGOs work in a variety of areas such as agriculture, health, nutrition, infrastructure, and community development. The project's community governance activities are the centerpiece of the overall development strategy. Working with local villages and communes, the Project helps to develop and reinforce development planning and implementation platforms that will take responsibility for the development of their own communities.
Project interventions include: 1) improve rice and vegetable production practices; 2) improve marketing linkages
between Fort Dauphin and the project area; and 3) improve local dams and irrigation canals. With food from WFP
and building on years of roads rehabilitation experience, CARE rehabilitates over 50 kilometers of important farm-tomarket roads and helps set up sustainable maintenance systems through local community management structures.
The project also designs and implements nutritional enhancement strategies. CARE and local credit organizations
also plan to establish rural credit opportunities and to pilot an adult literacy program which, if successful, will be scaled up.
