This three year project financed by the European Union builds upon the Food Security Project already being implemented in the project zone. It will focus on expanding the agricultural production activities taking place in six communes into 18 communes and it will establish a sustainable technical support network which will assist local farmers with technical assistance(TA) and agriculture inputs and further develop and reinforce marketing networks in order to encourage agriculture production. Located in the southeast of Madagascar, this is the fourth project in two years which has been supported by the EU and enhances our role as one of the leading NGOs in the region. The project complements our other projects in that it is contributing to our efforts at integrating projects, and in that it provides us more opportunities to influence the development dialogue happening in the region. The project reflects CARE Madagascar's changing model to work more closely with local partners and local authorities in the provision of TA and the transfer of competencies to reinforce local capacity. With a small TA team the project will work closely with the local NGO, FAFAFI, as well as government officials in the agriculture sector and local communities to implement project strategies. As with all CARE Madagascar projects, involving local authorities and strengthening their role in the planning and implementing of development activities will be a priority of the project team.
