Project Name:Promoting Food Access, Rights and Community Mobilisation (ProFARM)
Project Description:
ProFARM builds on the 3-year Food Security- Rights Based Approach project (FS-RBA). At one level ProFARM intends to support farmer groups (approximately 9,600 direct and 28,800 indirect benficiaries) in marginalised villages of Bo, Moyamba and Tonkolili districts of Sierra Leone to become increasingly self-reliant in food production and more secure in their access to food. At the same time the project seeks to support Sierra Leone's transition to sustainable development by enhancing the capacity of community leadership to practice accountable and responsive governance and develop external institutional linkages (e.g. local District Councils)for future development. The activities which will be promoted to achieve ProFARM's aims include: promotion of more appropriate crop production/harvesting techniques through training of farmers at Farmer Field Schools; rehabilitation of local marketing mechanisms and facilities; supporting women groups to grow and consume healthier food; building capacities of farmer groups/community institutions in equitable planning and mobilization of resources.
