Project Information

Project Name:Integrated Natural Resources Conservation
Project Description:
The Integrated Natural Resources Conservation project aims to conserve mini-watersheds in the northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son. These watershed areas have been degraded due to illegal logging, forest fires and expanding farmlands. The project is working with indigenous peoples to promote the sustainable use of agricultural systems and fragile watershed forests. Project components include agroforestry promotion, soil and water conservation, rice paddy and fish pond development and non-farm income generating activities. CARE works closely with Chiang Mai University to study and implement approaches for promoting community participation in sustainable land use. CARE's project partners are the Royal Forestry Department and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
