In April 2006, CARE International assessed the humanitarian situation in central Katanga in response to an ongoing crisis, and recommends a certain number of activities including psychosocial support to victims of sexual violence. In order to design a project that can support theses beneficiaries, CARE RDC received ERF funding for proposal development to mobilize funding to support the implementation of SGBV/psychosocial activities. The overall objective of the Katanga Emergency Program is to provide psychosocial support to people traumatized during the war with a particular focus on women affected by sexual violence. The target population are 66,000 IPD's who currently take refuge in Pweto, Dubie and Mitwaba areas in Katanga province, DRC.
