Business Development Services (BDS): Business Development Services (BDS): CARE BDS programs focus on helping people acquire skills to improve the management of their businesses and income-generating activities. Skills include business planning, basic bookkeeping, marketing analysis and techniques and inventory control.
In Uganda, CARE's Joint Encouragement of New Gainful Activities (JENGA) trains selected local community members to become Community Business Advisors (CBA). For a small fee, the CBA then train local micro-entrepreneurs, helping them select, plan and manage income-generating activities. Using the CBA system, the JENGA project has reached approximately 3,000 people, 60 percent of whom were women.
