TORONTO (August 16, 2006) - CARE President and CEO Helene D. Gayle is in Toronto this week as co-chair of AIDS 2006, the 16th International AIDS Conference. The world's largest conference on HIV/AIDS, AIDS 2006 brings together an estimated 20,000 participants, including scientists, health care providers, political, community and business leaders, journalists, representatives from government and civil society organizations, and leaders such as Bill Clinton and Bill and Melinda Gates.

This year's conference theme, "Time to Deliver," focuses on the promises and progress made to scale-up treatment, care and prevention. The conference also covers a range of promising new HIV prevention approaches. A new report by an international panel of 50 AIDS experts, including Dr. Gayle, details the obstacles that these new methods face and makes recommendations to accelerate HIV prevention research and ensure future access.
