Michelle Nunn, President and CEO of CARE, appeared alongside co-chair of the CARE Board Rick Stengel, on MSN Now’s Morning Joe to speak about the New York pop-up event that celebrates the official re-launch of the CARE PACKAGE on CARE’s 80th anniversary.
Marlena Mahta, one of the recipient’s of the first CARE PACKAGEs in post-war Europe, spoke about what it felt like to open this iconic box and find food supplies and other essentials sent by ordinary Americans to survivors of the second world war.
Below is a sound bite by Michelle Nunn from the conversation that highlighted CARE’s journey over the course of eight decades and embodies the spirit of American generosity and compassion around the world.
“We created a pop-up event where you can literally walk through the 80 years of CARE throughout its history, from that first response that Malena spoke about and the millions of people who were the recipients of the Berlin Airlift, to the Korean war and the the training of Peace Corps volunteers. We have been a part of such an extraordinary history, but we do think this is an opportunity and an imperative for us to continue to innovate and change.”
