CARE preparing to respond to dangerous Hurricane Felix in Central America

CARE operations in Central America are poised to respond to the effects of Hurricane Felix, a dangerous category 5 storm that threatens catastrophic damage to the region.  Current predictions show the hurricane expected to make landfall sometime on Tuesday, September 4, posing a grave threat to life and property through possible severe rainfall, flash floods, landslides and damaging winds.  CARE emergency teams are gearing up in Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala to respond to the anticipated devastation.  The region may face a disaster of similar proportions to Hurricane Mitch in 1998 or Hurricane Fifi in 1974.  We’ll report more on the storm and CARE’s response as soon as additional information becomes available.

Meanwhile, please support CARE’s Emergency Response Fund, which enables us to respond immediately to such disasters in Central America and worldwide.
