A devastating 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on August 31, 2025, killing at least 1,411 people and destroying over 5,400 homes. CARE is responding with emergency assistance including food, shelter, medical supplies, and protection programs for women and girls in the affected provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, and Nuristan.

After the October earthquakes that killed hundreds, winter in Afghanistan poses severe challenges for the people of Herat. CARE is providing crucial aid including clothes, blankets, and financial help for the most vulnerable, including families led by women or children and those with disabilities.
