Online training: Violence against women and girls (VAWG) prevention and response in cash and voucher assistance (CVA)

This six-week, facilitator-led course gives specialists working with protection and women and girls, the tools they need to use cash and voucher assistance (CVA) to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls (VAWG) in crisis settings.

What the course offers

We designed this course around the case management approach, with five modules that follow the full project cycle. Participants build practical skills to prepare, design, deliver, and monitor CVA that puts women and girls at the center. The course builds on face-to-face training originally developed by CARE and the Women’s Refugee Commission, and adapts it for remote and frontline settings.

Who made it possible

With support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, CARE and the Women’s Refugee Commission created the course to expand access to tools and guidance for violence prevention in cash programs. USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance funded translations into French and Spanish, making the course more accessible to frontline teams.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how CVA supports outcomes for women and girls affected by violence
  • Decide when and how to use CVA as part of a wider protection response
  • Clarify the roles of different teams across the project cycle
  • Choose safe and appropriate delivery mechanisms and transfer values
  • Identify the right data for monitoring and evaluating CVA and VAWG programming

Our achievements

More than 200 participants have graduated from the course, with many more registered and learning now.

This training helps CARE and partners design smarter, safer, and more effective cash responses that protect women and girls in times of crisis.
