CARE Ambassadors and Changemakers

Actress and producer Bellamy Young is best known for her award-winning role of President Mellie Grant on ABC’s Scandal. Currently, she can be seen in NBC’s Brilliant Minds. She began her career onstage, working her way from regional theater to Broadway, notably in the Tony-nominated musical The Life, before transitioning to television and film, starring in series such as Prodigal Son, Criminal Minds, and Scrubs, and films like A Wrinkle in Time, Mission: Impossible III, and The Freebie among many others.

Singing has been a life-long love for Bellamy. Her album Far Away So Close is available on all platforms. She has performed at the White House for President Obama and his family and gotten to sing the National Anthem for both the NY Mets and the LA Dodgers. Her debut novel, The Aetherion Code, the first in a YA sci-fi trilogy co-written with her dear friend Fay Masterson, is available in paperback, e-book, and audiobook worldwide.

Born in Asheville, NC, Bellamy was adopted out of foster care at an early age. After graduating with dual degrees from Yale University and a subsequent training program through British American Drama Academy at Oxford College in England, she moved to New York to follow her dreams.

Bellamy began supporting and working with CARE in 2018. In 2019, she took a transformative trip with CARE to learn about their projects in Rwanda. Among many notable encounters, she met a farmer named Brigette who had transformed her life by joining a CARE savings group and becoming an entrepreneur. Getting to witness firsthand what is possible when we support each other was a turning point in Bellamy’s own life. She is now proud to advance CARE’s work by having created the podcast She Leads with CARE, which uplifts the stories of incredible women from around the world who, like Brigette, have changed their own lives and those of their communities with the help of CARE. The podcast is available wherever you listen.
