The Horn of Africa Crisis: “The Challenge of a Generation”
Across Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia, the Horn of Africa is experiencing the extreme effects of climate change. Compounded by other factors, the impacts on communities have been catastrophic. CARE calls for the full funding of the Humanitarian Resource Plan in all countries to save lives.

With almost 6.7 million people hungry, over 4 million livestock dead, 32%-75% of cereal harvests failed, an increase in food prices, and flooding in several areas, Somalia is facing a worsening crisis. Somalia's worst food crisis in 40 years is largely due to climate change.

The conflict threatens the planting season which is set to begin at the end of May. If the season is missed, the number of people going hungry —at 11 million or 25 percent of the population prior to the current crisis—will increase.
