James Akai, CARE’s South Sudan Country Director, spoke to Al Jazeera about the impact of the escalating conflict on the civil population, the difficulties humanitarians face in accessing communities and the impact of aid cuts. Below are a few quotes from Akai’s interview:
“We have had problems accessing the communities we serve for months. The hospital that has been jeopardize serves more than 200,000 people. These people are already facing other layered challenges, like climate-induced disasters, hunger, disease.”
“We are witnessing acute malnutrition. The severity of the challenges is that we are looking at the potential of human beings dying. That is not what we want to witness.”
