Volunteer event at Atlanta's Beltline pop-up space LikeMinds ATL on Saturday, June 20, will support disaster-affected communities across the United States

Atlanta, Ga., June 15, 2026 — CARE, the Atlanta-based humanitarian organization that created the first-ever CARE PACKAGE, is inviting Atlanta residents to help assemble and pack CARE PACKAGE kits for families in need during a community volunteer event on Saturday, June 20, from noon to 4:00 p.m., hosted at popup space LikeMinds ATL (formerly BrewDog) on the Beltline (112 Krog St. NE).

Community members are invited to stop by to pack essential supplies that will be distributed to families across the United States following disasters. The kits contain some of the most-needed hygiene items for individuals and families recovering from hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and other crises. CARE is aiming to have 2000 kits packed at the June 20 event which is free and open to the public.

In addition to assembling CARE PACKAGE kits, attendees can enjoy games, giveaways, and opportunities to learn more about CARE’s humanitarian work. Starting at noon, Likeminds will also host a World Cup watch party.

The Atlanta event builds on CARE’s nationwide celebration of the 80th anniversary of the CARE PACKAGE, one of the most iconic symbols of humanitarian aid.

Originally created to provide food and essential supplies to families struggling in post-war Europe, the CARE PACKAGE became one of the most recognized symbols of humanitarian assistance in the world. Eighty years later, CARE is carrying that legacy forward by mobilizing communities to assemble CARE PACKAGE kits for families recovering from disasters across the United States. Through volunteer opportunities like the Atlanta event, CARE aims to pack and deliver up to 500,000 CARE PACKAGE kits by 2030, reaching one million people nationwide.

“The CARE PACKAGE began as a simple act of compassion, and 80 years later that spirit remains just as powerful,” said Sarah Thompson, CARE’s Associate Vice President for U.S. Programs. “Every kit packed in Atlanta represents support, dignity, and hope for families recovering from disasters across the United States. We’re proud to invite the community to be part of a legacy that has touched tens of millions of lives around the world over the last 80 years.”

“When CARE came to us about hosting the CARE PACKAGE Pack and Watch Party, it was an easy yes. This is exactly what LikeMinds was built for — good energy, great people, and a reason to show up together. We can’t wait to welcome Atlanta and make it unforgettable,” said Kelly Campbell, Co-Creator, LikeMinds.

While CARE is more known for its global humanitarian work, over the past several years, the organization has expanded its programs across the United States. This includes support for families affected by disasters. Through partnerships with grassroots organizations, CARE distributes critical supplies, provides emergency cash assistance, and supports local recovery efforts through grants.

About the CARE PACKAGE®

On May 11, 1946, the first 15,000 CARE PACKAGE boxes were delivered to communities recovering from World War II in Europe. The now-iconic CARE PACKAGE traces its origins to the aftermath of the war, when CARE was founded by 22 American organizations to deliver relief supplies to war-affected families.

Between 1946 and the early 1960s, more than 100 million CARE PACKAGE boxes were delivered across Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, including hundreds of thousands during the Berlin Airlift. Today, CARE works in more than 120 countries, building on that legacy through emergency response, climate resilience, and long-term development programs.
