CARE International is a global confederation of 20 member organizations – Australia, Austria, Canada, Caucasus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Luxembourg, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Kingdom, and United States – working together to end poverty.

Since its establishment in 1987, CARE Denmark has been focused on strengthening the capacities of poor people living in rural areas with the purpose of improving their livelihoods, as well as the recognition of and respect for their rights. CARE Denmark focuses on countries in Africa and Southeast Asia in which the organization cooperates closely with local society. CARE’s work in developing countries is carried out by local employees, who account for 97 percent of all employees in CARE. This secures sustainability and effective and locally rooted operations.

CARE Denmark has a special focus on gender equality that is cross-cutting to everything the organization does – and a firm stance that environmental sustainability should not be compromised in the name of development.
