WABE: "CARE working with Caribbean organizations to provide Hurricane Melissa relief"

November 4, 2025

Jonathan Arogeti, CARE’s Caribbean Humanitarian Response Lead, spoke to WABE – NPR’s affiliate in the Atlanta region – about relief efforts in Jamaica and other countries impacted by Hurricane Melissa. Arogeti explained how CARE in Jamaica is responding to the devastating impact of the hurricane in partnership with the Jamaica Network of Rural Women Producers (JNRWP), a local non-governmental organization that advocates for and supports rural women working in agriculture and agro-business across the country.

CARE is assessing damage and urgent needs, and continuing distributions of lifesaving supplies. Through the partnership with CARE, the rural women’s network will also provide cash assistance, to help rural women meet basic needs and put in place livelihood recovery efforts to restore income sources.
