Al Jazeera: "Sudan war enters third year"

April 4, 2026

On the three year mark of the devastating conflict in Sudan, CARE’s Country Director Abdirahman Ali, spoke about its far-reaching humanitarian impact on civilians, especially on women and girls. As the needs rise, funding remains significantly below the target level for an adequate humanitarian response. Below is a quote shared extracted from the interview.

“Every year we see an increasing number of people in acute need of assistance: food, health, clean water, nutrition, and protection services. But what is most troubling, perhaps, is the fact that with the crisis increasing and the needs increasing, we do not have sufficient funding to match with the level of needs that are there. For example, this year, in 2026, the emergency response plan is barely 15% funded, to date, and we are already in the month of April.”

The interview was originally conducted by Agence France Presse and later picked up by Al Jazeera English.
