The Associated Press highlighted the different organizations providing support following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck western Colombia last week, killing hundreds, injuring thousands, and destroying more than 12,000 homes. CARE’s Country Director in Colombia, Catalina Vargas, was also quoted in the piece underscoring the challenges of reaching communities in Chocó, one of the country’s most isolated and underserved regions. CARE, which has a longstanding presence in Colombia, is responding with food assistance through cash and vouchers, emergency supplies, and safe spaces and emotional support for affected women and families.
