Magazine gift subscriptions support moms in world’s poorest places

ATLANTA  — This Mother’s Day, honor a special mom in your life by giving to CARE, one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations.

Just in time for Mother’s Day gift ideas, CARE is partnering with publishing giant Meredith Corp. to offer $10 subscriptions to select women’s magazines; the entire $10 from the subscription goes back to support CARE’s work. Magazines include Better Homes and Gardens, Family Circle, EveryDay with Rachael Ray, MORE, Parents, FamilyFun, Fitness, Traditional Home and EatingWell.  Learn more at www.care.org/magazine.

CARE strikes poverty at its roots. The organization provides tools for sustainable change to the people most vulnerable to hunger, violence and disease. In its work, CARE focuses on women and girls because, equipped with the proper resources, they have the power to lift whole families and entire communities out of poverty.

CARE also responds to emergencies all around the world. Mothers are particularly vulnerable during conflicts and natural disasters. Most likely to be responsible for children and least likely to have access to information and resources, mothers bear a particularly heavy load when disaster strikes.  Moms like  Heba, who along with her then seven-year-old daughter, Eman, was shot in war-torn Syria. CARE is assisting Heba and other Syrian refugees get the counseling they need to restart their lives.

“A gift to CARE can help a mom like Heba get back on her feet. It can help women send their daughters to school in places where girls have traditionally been denied an education. It can also assure a pregnant woman has a safe place to give birth in one of the world’s poorest communities,” said Tolli Love, CARE’s vice president of fundraising and marketing. “Supporting CARE is the ultimate way to pay it forward in honor of a mom on our special day.”

About CARE

Founded in 1945, CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty and providing lifesaving assistance in emergencies. CARE places special focus on working alongside poor girls and women because, equipped with the proper resources, they have the power to help lift whole families and entire communities out of poverty.

Our six decades of experience show that when you empower a girl or woman, she becomes a catalyst, creating ripples of positive change that lift up everyone around her. That’s why girls and women are at the heart of CARE’s community-based efforts to improve education, health and economic opportunity for everyone. We also work with girls and women to promote social justice, respond to emergencies and confront hunger and climate change. Last year CARE worked in 87 countries and reached more than 83 million people around the world. To learn more, visit www.care.org.
