Project Name:Access to Credit with Production Chains in Rural Zones
Project Description:
CARE Peru's project will allow 80 producer families to have access to credit in order to improve production and commercialization of their products to markets. Fifty percent of this grant will be used to buy shares in -Edpyme EDYFICAR- with the return on these shares being used to finance costs of linking the small prodcuers to markets. The remaining fifty percent will serve as a guarantee fund in microfinance institutions. This fund will be used as leverage by these institutions to give credit of up to a similar amount to the guarantee fund. One of the main strategies of this project will be the use of production chains. In order for families to have access to this credit, they must belong to a production chain association. Private Technical Assistance providers will monitor the commercial production activities of the chain. By 2007, there would be a maximum of 80 producers having access to credit in the formal financial system, in the departments of Ancash, Ayacucho and Puno.
