Before becoming Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Hazem was the Executive Director of the CARE Egypt Foundation, which he co-founded in 2018 to be the heir of CARE’s presence in Egypt. Prior to that, Hazem was the Country Director and Assistant Country Director for CARE Egypt.
Hazem has more than 20 years of experience in development work. Before joining CARE, he worked in the government, academia, and nonprofit sectors, including a research position for the Egyptian National Water Research Center and a teaching position in Agriculture, Hydraulic Engineering and Natural Resources Management in university institutes in Egypt, New Mexico, and South Dakota. Hazem holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from New Mexico State University.
