Chefs Advocating for CARE
Following their trip to Peru, the CARE chefs have been active in advocating on behalf of the poor and working in partnership with CARE to create policy changes.
About the Trips
CARE’s trips take chefs off the beaten path to talk with farmers and entrepreneurs, visit local farms, and meet with partner organizations. We believe when leading chefs meet the women and families behind the global hunger statistics, they will be inspired and motivated to lead change.
In January 2014, four prominent chefs traveled with CARE to Peru to learn about the challenges of and solutions to global hunger. On this three-day Learning Tour to Ayacucho and Lima, the chefs saw how investments in sustainable agriculture, women’s empowerment and better nutrition are paying off with higher incomes and improved family health. The trip focused on the importance of buying locally and supporting local farmers, central tenants of the philosophy that not only guides the chefs but also the hunger-fighting programs at CARE.
