CARE Encouraged by Nomination of Samantha Power to USAID

CARE is encouraged by the Biden administration’s speedy nomination of Samantha Power to lead the US Agency for International Development and the decision to elevate the position of USAID Administrator to the National Security Council.

As a longtime human rights advocate and former US Ambassador to the United Nations, we believe Power’s deep experience in addressing crises around the globe makes her a terrific choice. We need a strong leader for USAID to deal with some of the biggest challenges of our time including COVID19, extreme poverty, and a record number of people facing deadly hunger.

We welcome the opportunity to work with Power to put women and girls at the center of the solutions. The pandemic has proven that women and girls often face the brunt of the crises. CARE looks forward to working with Power and the Biden administration to help end poverty and ensure everyone can live with dignity and respect.

– Michelle Nunn, President and CEO, CARE USA
