WASHINGTON (Sept. 26, 2017) — The global poverty-fighting organization CARE today is launching its first-ever Global Leaders Network, an active community of national security, business and military veteran leaders who support CARE’s work to enhance global security and continue America’s longstanding tradition of leadership toward peace, stability and improved lives.

CARE’s experience working in 94 countries around the world to eradicate global poverty has demonstrated the success of U.S. foreign assistance programs in saving lives, combating poverty and protecting our own national security.”
This evening, CARE will host the Global Leaders’ Congressional Awards in the nation’s capital to honor leaders in Congress who champion America’s 70-year tradition of promoting global stability through humanitarian and development assistance. The event will bring together more than 100 current and former members of Congress, Congressional staff, foreign dignitaries, international development experts, corporate partners, philanthropists, media and members of the national security, business and military veterans’ communities.
The 2017 awardees are:
- Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) – Ranking Member, State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Subcommittee
- Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) – Vice Chair, Senate Appropriations Committee, Ranking Member, State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Subcommittee
- Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) – Ranking member, House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations
- Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY) – Chairman, House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations
In addition to the honorees, the reception will feature remarks from Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE); Michèle Flournoy, former Under Secretary of Defense and co-founder of the Center for a New American Security; David Cooper, CARE Global Leaders Network Advisory Board member; and Michelle Nunn, as well as our featured speaker of the evening, Gen. Philip Breedlove, U.S. Air Force (Ret.).
Also, as part of the launch of the Global Leaders Network, CARE is premiering a new foreign assistance video, featuring Adm. James Stavridis, U.S. Navy (Ret.); Gen. Carter Ham, former USAFRICOM Commander; and Adm. Mike Mullen, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
