The "Where the Rain Falls" ("Rainfalls") research explores the interrelationships among rainfall variability, food and livelihood security, and human mobility in a diverse set of research sites in eight countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. While climate change affects nearly all aspects of food security — from production and availability, to the stability of food supplies, access to food, and food utilization — the Rainfalls research focused on linkages between shifting rainfall patterns and food production and the stability of food supplies.
There are at least 150 million more food insecure women than men in the world. That’s three times the population of Ukraine. Sadly, the gap between the number of hungry women and men is growing. It's more than 8 times bigger in 2021 than it was in 2018—and the implications of the Ukraine conflict will make it worse. Between December 2020 and February 2022, CARE conducted interviews with saving group members as part of the Women (in VSLA) Respond sub-initiative. The sub-initiative is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and focuses on how women and girls in VSLAs in Burundi, Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and Uganda are affected by and responding to the pandemic.
