Chief Marketing Officer
Retail Industry Veteran John Aylward has served in senior marketing leadership positions at a number of strong consumer and retail brands in America and Europe including Starbucks, Gap and Sony following an early career in advertising in London developing campaigns for Levi’s, Ikea and Speedo to name a few.
John’s main focus is brand turnaround, company purpose and mission, driving new customer acquisition and overhauling customer lifecycle programs and their digital and media strategies. He currently lives in Florida and has been providing support and mentoring to some local University of Tampa start-ups and non-profits alongside broader commercial consulting projects.
Most recently at HSN (Home Shopping Network) John served as Chief Marketing Officer and had responsibility for the development of the brand and oversight of integrated marketing, omni-channel marketing and all creative output.
Prior to HSN John held senior leadership positions across a range of industries that include fashion/apparel, food and consumer electronics. Including Senior Vice President and head of marketing, brand engagement and media for DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) which followed two years as VP of marketing for Starbucks' premium tea division Teavana. He spent seven years, from 2006-2012, at Gap Inc. leading Gap brand in Europe, including launching the (RED) partnership with The Global Fund, as well as launching Gap brand in Italy and Ireland before moving to San Francisco as Director Marketing Strategy.
Prior to his work at Gap, Mr. Aylward spent two years at Sony Corporation in London where he was senior manager of marketing communications for Sony Europe. He started his career in the UK advertising agency business with account management positions at BBH, St. Luke’s and Grey Advertising.
Through his commercial career John has built brand partnerships with (RED), Goodwill and CARE and many others. John has also always stayed involved in his local communities, volunteering and providing pro bono strategic support to multiple non-profits including Taproot Foundation, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Foundation for Sustainable Development, Natural Heritage Institute and TransAccess.
Born in London John has lived mostly in the US since 2007 and is a dual citizen of the UK and US, an avid pet lover and world traveler and holds his MBA from Trium, a combined program of NYU Stern business school, London School of Economics and HEC Paris. He also holds BA and MA degrees in History from the University of Cambridge, UK.
