From the desk of Helene D. Gayle, former President and CEO

For more than a century, International Women's Day has been celebrated on March 8 to shine a light on the progress of so many girls and women around the world.

I hope you're as proud as we are to share in their wonderful achievements. Thanks to your generous gifts, women in Sri Lanka are escaping the violence. You're helping girls as young as nine get an education and avoid child marriage in Nepal. And you're steering countless women to brighter (and safer) futures through President Obama's Let Girls Learn Initiative!

You've even inspired corporations like Hain Celestial and Gap to wield their influence and reach for the same objectives.

Still, the #MakeItHappen theme this year reminded me how much work actually remains. Women in South Sudan still face the possibility of violence every day. Refugee girls living in Jordan today still need food shelter and safe passage to school. So many girls and women need our help.

It's never too late. Please make your gift to CARE today.
